Frequently Asked Questions

  • Turn Crest Stable is a business and a home. Our rules:

    • Keep horses healthy and calm

    • Keep riders safe and learning

    • Respect Vicki’s time and privacy

    • Are required for certifications, licenses and insurance

  • Yes, ATSM certified riding helmets are required for everyone (no bike helmets). You can purchase a new one at the Saddlery on the farm or rent a used one for $5 per rider/lesson.

  • Yes, all riders must have boots with 1-inch heels. Paddock boots are recommended because the sole fits properly in stirrups. 

    You can purchase boots from our Saddlery on the farm.

  • Pants and fitted tops with sleeves‍ are required.

    Acceptable riding pants include long jeans and leggings. NO SHORTS. If you are an English rider, breeches are ideal. If you are a Western rider, long jeans are ideal.

    Acceptable tops include fitted t-shirts, polo shirts and coats. NO TANK TOPS. Tops must be fitted so Vicki can see and correct posture.

    Additional layers can be added for cold or wet weather.

  • Lessons are pre-paid on a monthly basis with check, cash or Venmo @Vicki-Holst.

    Example:

    If you plan to ride in May, your payment is due on or before the last day of April. 

    Your money helps pay for horse food and vet visits. If a payment is not received on time, a $50 late fee is added.

  • Yes! You are welcome to watch from the sidelines (bring your own chair) or heated viewing room. We’ll show you how to groom and tack up horses too!

    If you have small children who are not taking riding lessons, please keep them quiet and away from the riding arena (our swing set is a great distraction for them).

    NO DOGS allowed.

  • Email, call or text Vicki at least 24 hours before the lesson:

    A makeup lesson must be scheduled and used within 2 weeks of the original (missed) lesson. If it is not scheduled or canceled again, it is forfeited. 

    Only 1 make up lesson is allowed every 60 days and no makeup lessons under 30 days.

  • If Vicki cancels a lesson that lesson will be made up. 

    Exceptions:

    • No lessons are scheduled or made up during Vicki’s 1-week vacation each year

    • No lessons are scheduled or made up on major holidays
